The Business of Welfare

Mike C. sent a story that may make you throw things at your valuables.

While we all know Government and Big Business and the Left are in the business of selling poverty, it is not all that often that we get a free, unobfuscated view.

JP Morgan makes a profit by issuing food stamp cards. Did you know that? I didn't. I assumed it was a government agency (which is bad enough). But, according to the article, JP Morgan made more than $5 Billion net last year by running the program for FedGov.

The more people they can enroll to use the cards, the more JP Morgan makes.

Today, 1 in 7 Americans eats food paid for by the Government...which means you and I pay for the food being eaten by 1 in 7 of our neighbors.

Here's the link.

  1. Fascism is simply Communism by other means.

Both are ways of controlling the distribution of wealth, goods and services. Communism does it through state ownership of all production (Marxism-Leninism) or through cooperatives (so-called "stateless communism" which is impossible to achieve) but is unsustainable by its very nature.

Fascism on the other hand, contains just enough private enterprise to make the collectivist state sustain itself, when a given producer is controlled by the state (through either reward as the mega banks in the US are, or through coercion as all businesses but the arms manufacturers were in Nazi Germany).

  2. You know, the more threads one follows, the more one recognizes common themes in the world.

JP Morgan is a name I hear over, and over, and over, and over again.

    Seremzh-
Your statements on Nazi Germany must be examined. You see the actions of that government in the context of a total war.

The American Government was just as oppressive to private industry during WW2 as was that of the National Socialists. Some businesses were hit with 90% "war profits" taxes.

Desperate nations do desperate things when fighting such a war.

All in all though, I agree with the thrust of your statement.

  3. I ran across this excellent piece a few days ago.

Written in 1938 it lays out how FDR rolled up the entire system in 1933. It gave me a better picture of what we're up against. It's much bigger and worse than I thought.
