To Shoot, Move and Communicate is the hard floor of your required skillset...

From Signal Corps:

April 4-6, 2014, Timonium, MD
April 26-27, Waterbury, CT

The class will revolve around the basics of low power/qrp/covert operation with low-profile/improvised antennas, and communications monitoring focused for VHF/UHF COMINT. It will consist of  classroom instruction and a field training exercise  (FTX). The FTX will be held *rain or shine*. Dress and equip yourself appropriately. It is strongly advised that the attendee have at least a general class ham license, as HF operation will be involved. If you don’t have a general license, you can do a COMINT/monitoring track on the Sunday FTX. Also, you will receive a copy of my new book “Grid-Down Communications”, and Maryland attendees will receive a ticket to the Timonium Hamfest on April 5th.  as part of the course.
Topics to be discussed will include:
  • Considerations for III%er/Grid-Down Communications
  • Equipment Selection
  • Improvised Antennas
  • Low Profile/Covert Operations
  • Basic Cryptographic Systems and Techniques
  • Non-Radio Communications Options
  • IFF (Identification Friend/Foe) and Interoperability System Considerations
  • Basic Improvised Surveillance/Security Systems – Off The Shelf Solutions
  • VHF/UHF Communications Monitoring/COMINT (Communications Intelligence)  Equipment and Systems
  • Basic COMINT and COMINT Analysis

“If all my possessions were taken from me with one exception, I would choose to keep the power of communication, for by it I would soon regain all the rest” ~ Daniel Webster

 ~~

No matter what you may think the world holds in our future, the ability to communicate over distances will be imperative.  If some pundits are correct and we fall into a Civil War, maintaining communication with Patriots around the country will be important for coordination and intelligence, and the ability to use your radio in a hostile environment is a skillset you will not be able to learn on the job.  If you consider any post war scenario, the same Comms abilities will be needed to reach out to other parts of the country to find needed supplies, needed expertise, manpower, even diplomacy if we Balkanize.

The point: No matter what is coming our way, the ability to communicate is one of the fundamentals of Shoot, Move, Communicate - and Resistance.

Sparks is offering special early bird discounts for upcoming classes.  If you can't attend for some reason, consider sending one of your allies.  The ability to find this kind of training will be impossible, at any price, once the Games begin.  Indeed, not having these skills may cost you everything - life, liberty, property...
