The Citizen Unconventional Rifle Squad: Arming with .308?

Max has written a post intended for the adults in the room.

I commend it to you, here.

My personal opinion on firearms: Learn to shoot and function with as many different firearms and calibers as possible.  Have the ability to lay your hands on a weapon that can shoot whatever box of ammo you liberate from the corpse of an Enemy of Liberty - even old-school calibers that you never expect to encounter.  Be ready to run any and every firearm carried by members of your Team.

  1. Play the odds. Close your eyes. Be honest with yourself.

What is the most likely rifle round laying on the ground? What is the most likely pistol round laying on the ground? What is the most likely rifle platform laying on the ground? What is the most likely pistol platform laying on the ground?

Forget your prejudices. Hard to do I know. I have mine as well. But I am a practical man and quite frankly it is what it is.

So, can you answer the questions? Without prejudice. And rooted in reality. Without all the macho bullshit that so often accompanies stuff like this.

For the record. I didn't read Max's article. I don't have to. And I don't care what he or anybody else says. It is what it is.

    It really is.

  2. I have read the article and found it fairly well written with the pros & cons represented. My thoughts are: go with what you are confident and capable with and of a caliber readily available. My wife and I both have AR platforms that I built for our wants & needs. She appreciates it's lighter weight & tiny recoil. I head for either of my Springfield Armory M1A's (MA9116 open sights, MA9226 w/Sheppard scope). I cannot fathom her humping 13+# or absorbing the recoil from one for a period of time with her physique. Between the two of us, we make a great team! We both carry Springfield Armory sidearms, XD 4" (me), XDs (her) in .45ACP.

  3. I have always loved the 7.62 NATO round. But now a days I can't afford ball ammo at .67 cents a round, except as a sniper round.
